CANNES

The romans called the place Canoïs, reed port. Today, Cannes (68 000 pop.) with the small historic center, the boulevard La Croisette, the hotel palaces and especially the international festivals in together with Nice the flagship of the Côte d'Azur.

La Croisette The counterpart to the Promenade des Anglais in Nice and is fitted with palm trees, palaces, luxury shops and umbrellas on the beach in a wide bay. Over 200 movie stars have their hand imprints in the concrete slabs left, the red carpet on the stairs to the "bunker" as the locals irreverently call the building, is the whole year there. Worth to see are the facades of the palaces Hotel Majestic, Carlton and Martinez.

Le Suquet The historic center of Cannes at the foot of Mont Chevalier consists of less than ten streets, the Rue Saint-Antoine lead up to the castle. This is now an archeological collection of monks from the Îles de Lérins.
