FRANKFURT

The city thrives on its contrasts, from the tense coexistence of culture and commerce, cosmopolitan and local patriotism You can say much about Frankfurt - one is not sure, however: that it is typically German. 180 nationalities were counted, nearly one third of the Frankfurt citizens do not have a German passport. Their share in total population is the highest of all major German cities. The spectrum ranges from a Turkish greengrocer to the Asian Banker, the Egyptian programmer to the Italian conductor. Tolerant, cosmopolitan and modern, with more than 1200 years of history, is Frankfurt today the center of one of the most productive and dynamic regions in the heart of Europe. The reputation as a literary city of Frankfurt probably owes mainly "his" prince poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
