The lovely city (8400 pop.) is situatedon a long hill and shows even today much of its medieval structure, the oldest part is of the 12th century. In summer it is a sympathetic town. In winter it presents itself since the beginning of the 20th century as a fashionable Skivillage. Kitzbuehl is an Eldorado of boutiques where you primarily buy designer fashion.

The 30 km long Zillertal is a microcosm which all that reflects what Tirol's popularity as a tourist destination represents: green meadows, then steeply sloping hillsides and picturesque villages. The upper part is constricted to a stunning highmountainvalley, whose side valleys rise to the glaciers of the Zillertaleralps. Mayrhofen, capital of the valley and the endpoint of the Zillertalbahn, art history is less touristical its interesting. A tip for (good) skiers: The ski area waiting in Penken offers the steepest slopes of Austria, tellingly named "harakiri" - up to dizzying 78 percent gap. Zillertaler Höhenstraße The 35 km long stretch offers wonderful views, is recommended because of their demands only for very safe drivers. The amount of road leads from Ried (570 meters) to Hippach (620 meters). The highest point you can reach while driving, is Melchboden at 2015 m.
