Alte Boerse Like a small treasure chest is the richly decorated building at the front of the Naschmarkt. The first baroque building of Leipzig was built in 1678/79 because of urging of merchants who no longer liked to have shops in the narrow woodbuilding on the market. In the vaults merchants offered their goods for sale. In the stock market today concerts and readings take place. Hauptbahnhof Behind the historic walls (1909-13) there are 24 platforms in the largest head station in Europe and a modern service center. Thomaskirche Its reputation goes far beyond the country's borders. Voelkerschlachtsdenkmal More than 200 000 visitors visit the huge monument each year. It was inaugurated in 1913 - 100 years after the European allies in the international battle had beaten Napoleon at Leipzig. In the monument, an exhibition documents the history. In the crypt holding 16 stone warriors are standing. The colossal figures in the Hall of Fame (bravery, strength of faith, joy and sacrifice people power) stand about 10 meters in height. Until 2013, the 100th Anniversary of the consecration monuments, the 300 000 tonnes of heavy colossus are restored. Impressive is the view from the 91 meter high viewing platform. For the approximately 40-minute ride, you pay about 30 Euro.
Transportation The Leipzig transport companies operate buses and trams. Single tickets are available for 1.60 Euro. A day ticket brings you for 4.60 Euro through the city.
