Today is the entire town of Morelia (900 000 pop.) a national monument, which is about seven to eight blocks and constructed of finely restored mansions with patios, powerful churches and plazas. Lago de Pazcuaro 65 km in west is the Lago de Patzcuaro situated, one of the most beautiful lakes in the country. Nestled in a green hills, surrounded by volcanoes. The fishers like to drive visitors for a few pesos to the small island of Janitzio. 3 km from the lake lies the eponymous province town, a well-kept village with low, whitewashed houses, example of rural colonial architecture.
