The great historical heritage and tradition as the main city of the province and university as well as administrative and commercial center with its 146 000 inhabitants can not be always harmoniously together. Festung Hohensalzburg The castle enthroned on the 119 m high dolomite rock. Relaxed is a ride with the Fort Railway (in the valley station Festungsgasse). Friedhof St. Sebastian The place is burial site of many families from Salzburg. This is also where the Mozart family grave is, where Mozart's father Leopold, Mozart's widow Constanze and her second husband, Georg Nikolaus von Nissen is lying. Between church and cemetery lies the grave of Paracelsus. In summer daily 9am-7pm, in winter 9am-4pm.
Getreidegasse Salzburg's most famous mile, lost with the new international fashion stores and fast food chainsa lot of considerable charm. Facades of several styles, from the middle ages to the historicism, fit together like a band, house signs and characters complement the streets unique image.
Mozarts Geburtshaus The most important point of each visit of Salzburg is the Getreidegasse 9, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on the 27th of January 1756. In the former apartment on the third floor are original instruments as Mozart's childhood violin and clavichord as well as furniture, paintings. Mozart-Wohnhaus 1773 the Mozart family moved to the right of the Salzach in the house Makartplatz No 8. The building, which was destroyed during the Second World War, was in the 1990s with Japanese financial support reconstructed. Sept.-June daily 9am-6pm clock, July / Aug. 9am-7pm. entrance 6 Euro.
Residenz From the residential square which has a fountain in its middle, built in 1656-61 you can enter the main courtyard. daily 10am-5pm clock, entrance 8 Euro
St. Peter The Benedictine Abbey is considered the oldest still-existing convent in the German speaking region, whose abbots were bishops and archbishops. In the tomb municipalities, Johann Michael Haydn and Mozart's sister Nannerl are buried. cemetery in summer daily 6.30am to 7pm, in winter to 6pm.
shopping The range of dress styles for men and women is great. Lanz (Kranzlmarkt 1) offers traditional clothes for children. The umbrella maker Kirchtag (Getreidegasse 22) is the best address for a folded roof over your head. At Nagy (Linzer Gasse 32), you can buy good candles.
